fabric

How cool would it be to design your own fabric and have it printed?! While researching I came across this website!

With spoonflower you can upload a digital photograph, scan some art work, or upload a design you have created in photoshop or illustrator! There are some really neat, weird, and very creative prints. Here's some I thought were fun!

Yards vary from $18 to $38, but with your own design on fabric in your home... whats more cool?

art gallery adventure

Every last Thursday of the month from 6-9pm AGA (Art gallery of Alberta) opens its doors for free! Since we are back in the city I dragged the hubby for a look!

One of the exhibits we liked the best was Brian Jungen. Jungen is best known for his transformative re-workings of everyday manufactured goods into compelling art displays

The exhibit we saw by him was created by white plastic lawn chairs that were cut, deconstructed and re-assembled. Take a look!

Sooooooooo so cool!

So we have a $400 delta flight credit to use by march 1, 2011. Yep, that's in 5 days. We have no idea how to find flights for cheap other than google and crappy sites we've come across. If you have any secrets please share. We will go ANYWHERE the $400 will take us... or one of us :)

Some day.... some day me and mr kipp will travel across this world...

oktomat!

This little camera you see down here is an oktomat! I have one of these little guys and let me tell you... they are so fun! They take 8 pictures right after each other, in 2.5 seconds! With no flash and a pop up view finder, it definitely takes the right lighting and a little time to know what your actually shooting! The best part is taking the film in and getting it back to see what you actually captured!

Here's some photos we took..

Here's some photos from online

Looks like we have some work to do shooting with this camera... :)

pillows :)

Today's post is about this pillow I made.

  • 4 bunches of dollar store white flowers $4
  • 1 strand of faux white pearls from dollar store $1
  • 1 pillow case (I made out of white fabric I had) .. walmart, home outfitters, etc.
  • Flowers machine sewn or hand sewn onto pillow
  • Hand stitch pearls into flowers center

I love pillows and there super easy to make! If you don't know how to sew... you can create fun pillows by using plain pillow covers by hand stitching fabric, notions, or even go to your local mall and have a image silk screened from a t-shirt shop. You just bring your image on a usb and away you go!

a little bit of yellow...

A couple of weeks ago I picked up 2 dressers for $40 off kijiji. With a little yellow paint the dresser has set the inspiration for our new bedroom!

Now all I need to do is pick some knobs... easier said then done! These lovely knobs are some of my picks from http://www.anthropologie.com/ ranging from $6-$10 each...
.
With our antique cast iron bed frame we picked up for $60 at a local thrift store, which knobs would you choose for the dresser? I love the middle bottom one... or is it to matchy matchy..?

Happy long weekend everyone.. we will be spending ours by finishing unpacking and organizing. boo

maps, maps, maps!

Now that the china cabinet is painted my goal was to find a fun print or fabric for the back of the china cabinet! While I was in a antique store I came across a shelving unit with a map in the background and instantly knew that was the look I wanted, with more of an antique map look.

While at work we decided to take out some garbage, and to my surprise there was a roll of about 30 old antique Canadian region maps from 1948! They were exactly what I was looking for... and FREE! There are so many possibilities with these little treasures! My mom is going to take a couple to frame for a future bedroom update!

Love them! I will have 15 after I'm done with my projects... what else could I use them for? So many possibilities...

china cabinet

O what a steal. I found this maroon china cabinet on kijiji for $60 and had to have it. With a long drive to the north end, a bit of black paint and some love this beauty turned out better than expected. Thanks to my hubby and brother in law, she is settled in our little basement suite.
